Competing Models
1975-2016 Rear wheel drive cars with a minimum wheelbase of 105''
Car Bodies
1. Stock or aftermarket LMSC legal steel or composite bodies only, Camaro, Mustang .
and Challenger bodies per AR Bodies specs.
2. All bodies must meet roof and spoiler height.
3. All bodies must be approved by Newport Speedway Officials.
4. All cars must be painted and lettered professionally.
5. Rocker panels may be fabricated but must maintain 4'' ground clearance.
6. Front windshields must be full Lexan. Back window mandatory. Clear lexan may be
installed rear quarter windows. No side windows.
7. An approved must be installed in the drivers side window opening.
8. Rear spoiler 5'' high with 54'' width.Max spoiler height from ground 39''.
Frame
1. Fabricated clips allowed.
2. Frame rails minimum 2''x 3''
3. OEM sub frame may fabricate upper control arm and re-position upper mounts.
4. Stock OEM front sub frame with tubing frame connector allowed.
5. OEM stock clip must have factory OEM mounting points for lower control arms.
Must use OEM lowers.
6. Chassis rails must maintain 4'' ground clearance with driver excluding OEM Camaro
and Nova sub frame cars with stock floor pan only.
7. A steel firewall must separate the driver from the engine compartment and fuel tank.
Roll Cage
1. A complete Newport Speedway approved roll cage.
2. Roll cage must be constructed of roll bar tubing with a minimum outside diameter
of 1 3/4'' x 0.90'' wall thickness.
3. Roll cage must be centered on the frame. Perimeter style.
4. Main roll cage uprights must be on top of outside frame rails.
5. Full cage is required with 4 uprights and 4 top bars.
6. Roll bars may go through front and rear firewalls.
7. Minimum of 4 bars in drivers and passenger's door required.
8. All bars within driver's reach must be padded.
9. Driver's door bars must be plated with 1/8'' steel or 1/4 aluminum.
Suspension
1 .Spring spacers or screw jacks may be used on front and rear.
2. OEM type steering box, aftermarket tie rods, centerlink, idler, pitman arm
allowed. No rack and pinion.
3. Aftermarket spindles allowed.
4. Upper A-frames may be fabricated.
5. Front sway bar may be OEM or aftermarket.Mounting points may be aftermarket.
6. Leaf spring or coil spring 3 link suspension allowed on rear.truck arms allowed,
coil over allowed.
7. Steel rear lower trailing arms required. Truck trailing arm must be stitch welded a minimum of every 8 inches top and bottom. ̶n̶o̶ ̶b̶r̶a̶c̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶r̶u̶c̶k̶ ̶a̶r̶m̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶r̶e̶a̶r̶ ̶e̶n̶d̶ ̶h̶o̶u̶s̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ (amended 10/23)

Rear End
1. Rear ends must be either a floater or quick change.
2. Detroit locker or spool allowed. No torque limiting devices allowed.
3. No cambered rear end housings up to 1 degree.diameter of at least 12''
Shocks and Springs
1. Spherical end shocks allowed
2. Aftermarket steel body shocks allowed. Non adjustable and non-rebuildable.
3. Integra, Carrera Chrome Body 31 series, AFCO, pro.
4. Only 1 shock and spring per wheel.
5. No bump stops on shock or chassis allowed.
6. Claim rule will be in affect for shocks $400.00 a set or $100.00 each,money must be
turned into Newport Speedway Official in writing within 20 minutes of race completion.
Driver, crew chief or owner must have cash in-hand to protest that finish in the top 5.
7. Failure to sell shocks will result in disqualification and loss of all monies and points
for the night.
No coil binding and no progressive spring, only one spring rubber per spring in middle of spring.
Brakes
1. Single piston steel or aluminum OEM style brakes calipers required.
All 4 wheels must work.
2. Disc brakes may be used on rear.
3. Aftermarket brake and clutch pedals allowed.
4. Dual master cylinder allowed. Brake bias adjusters in drivers compartment.
Exhaust
1. Headers (4 into 1) will be permitted.
2. All exhaust must exit behind driver.
3. Header wrap permitted.
Engine Location
1. Engines may be interchanged from one body manufacturer to another.
2. Engine must be centered in chassis.
3. #1 spark plug in line with left upper ball joint for Chevrolet.
4. #1 spark plug in line with right upper ball joint for a ford
5. Minimum crankshaft height is 12'' from the center of the crank pulley to the ground.
Driver in car.
Cooling System
1. Aluminum radiators permitted. Any radiator is allowed.
2. Electric fans are permitted.
3. Overflow must be run into a tank or turned up onto the windshield.
4. No overflow hose permitted to be dumped behind rear wheels.
5. NO ANTI-FREEZE ALLOWED!!!
6. $100.00 FINE IF CAUGHT WITH ANTI-FREEZE IN CAR!!!
Electrical System
1. Electronic or point type ignition allowed.
2. Aftermarket distributors allowed.
3. Only 1 coil permitted.
4. Only 1 12-volt battery permitted.
5. Battery must be mounted in a safe manner.
If mounted inside drivers compartment it must have a cover over it.
6. Battery disconnect must be mounted in the drivers compartment where safety
personnel can easily see and be able to reach from either side of the car.
7. MSD ignition box allowed. No adjustable timing controls.
8. 1 MSD box only.
9. Ignition box must be visible and out of drivers reach.
10. All cars with chip rules must have MSD box in working condition.
11. $300.00 claim rule for MSD box, Driver or car owner has minutes after race
completion to turn in, in writing to tech official with cash in hand to be able to claim.
12. No open ended wiring in drivers compartment.
13. No type of traction devices allowed,No computerized systems allowed.
14. Alternators are allowed but may not exceed over 14.9 volts output.
15. Tachometer must be able to unplug,No digital readouts.
Fuel and Fuel System
1. Maximum fuel capacity allowed is 22 gallons.
2. Fuel cell is required.
3. Fuel cell must be securely strapped down with no less 1/8'' steel strap.
4. Fuel cell bar must extend below and past each end of the cell, No exceptions!
5. Fuel cells must have a minimum of 8'' ground clearance.
6. No oxidizers or additives,fuel must pass chemical test, At discretion of
Newport Speedway.
Wheels and Tires
1. Maximum wheel width 10''
2. Any offset allowed.
3. No aluminum wheels.
4. No air bleeds of any kind permitted in wheels.
5. No chemical tire treatment allowed.
6. Cars will run Hoosier 45s
7. Tires must be purchased from Newport Speedway.(Qualifying Tires/Race Tires).
8. There will be a 2-tire impound rule for each event.
9. All tires will be subject to inspection by officials at any time.
10. First time competitors are allowed to buy two tires on the Friday before competition, but must run them 80 laps prior to racing with them. (amended 6/7/17)
Engine
1. 604 crate in a late model type car with fabricated front clip.

2. 603 crate in a late model type car with fabricated front clip.

390 carb. Chip rule 6700.
A 603 will be allowed to run a stock 390 cfm carburetor. You may change jets, power valves,
acc. pump, etc. No machine work allowed. Engine must remain stock as per GM guidelines.
3. 602 crate in a late model type car with fabricated front clip.

up to 650 carb, Chip rule 6700, rule subject to change.
4. Ford crate/347/SR,in a late model type car with fabricated front clip.
weight 3150 lb.1450 right side weight.
390 CFM Carburetor, You may change jets, power valves,
acc. pump, etc. No Machine Work Allowed. Chip rule 6700, No Spacer Plate.
5. Chevrolet built motor in a late model type car with fabricated front clip.
up to 60 over,weight 3075 lb 1375 right side weight. (amended 6/26/17)
Holley 500 #4412, no roller cams, any GM production head, 7000 chip.
7. Chevrolet built motor, car with stock front clip,
500 Holley 4412 or HP only.up to 500 cam lift,any gm production head
weight 3000 lb 1325 right side weight. No chip rule.
8. 602 crate motor,car with stock front clip, Holley up to 650 carb
weight 3000 lb 1325 right side weight. No chip rule.
9. No roller cams in built or 602 motors.
10. Engines with chip rule must have MSD box that will except chip.
11. All motors must have steel bell housing.
12. Rocker Arms,Chevy crate 1.5/ 011.6 opt no splitting ratio.
Fords 1.65 Ratio.
13. All cars can run up to 66" treadwidth

CARBURETOR
1. Carburetor spacers must be no more than 1 inch thick and machining straight cut
or 90 degrees to the gasket surface. (GM Only)
2. No tapers or radii allowed.
Transmission
1. OEM Standard production manual transmission 2,3, or 4 speed
Must have working reverse gear.
Tires
1. Tires used in the Late Model Division will be the Hoosier 45's.
2. There will be a weekly 2-tire impound rule for the Late Model Division
3. Tires which are used for qualifying and racing MUST be purchased from Newport Speedway.
STRAIGHT RAIL CARS
1. Straight rails can run with the Late Models as long as they run a late model engine listed above. Car must weight 3,100 pounds with 55% left side weight and carry a 5" spoiler. Frame height must be 4"
2. No cold air boxes (amended 6/7/17)
PROTEST RULES
1. Newport Speedway reserves the right to inspect any car at any time. It is the drivers responsibility to have the car available for inspection by the track Competition Director or any other Staff member.
2. Protests must be made in writing within twenty minutes of race completion and turned in to the Race/Competition Director ONLY. All protests are CASH ONLY. Protests must be filed by either the team owner or the driver ONLY.
3. Protest fees must be turned into the Race/Competition Director at the time the protest is filed. Protest fees are as follows:
- Cylinder Head and Intake removal: $300.00 Bottom end of engines will be an additional $500.00
- Shock Claim Rule: $115.00 per shock not including hardware.
You may only claim up to three (3) per event.-See Shock section for claim procedures.
- MSD Ignition Box Claim Rule: $300.00
- Cylinder Heads Claim Rule: $1600.00 excluding rocker arms.
- Transmission Claim Rule: $3000.00 excluding shifter. Carburetor Claim Rule: $800.00 excluding fuel log
and carb. Stud (to be removed by track official ONLY)
4. Protester must participate in the same tech procedure as the car being protested. Only the top five finishers will be eligible to participate in the protest procedure. The car being protested must finish in front of the protester. No jumping cars to protest. Protester may only protest two carsin front of their own cars. If the protester is protesting two cars, then both cars must be protested for the same item(s). No more than two items can be protested at one time. If the cars is found to have an illegal part, it must be shown that the part has been removed before the start of the next race event.
5. Only the protested driver and two assistants are allowed in the tear down area to assist with the inspection process.
6. Any vehicle found to be illegal will forfeit all prize money and all points earned for that event. Any vehicle that fails to tear down for inspection, either under regular post race tech or protest conditions, will forfeit all prize money and all points earned for that event.
7. Newport Speedway reserves the right, in all events, to tear down the next car in position until a legal vehicle is found. This will be at the discretion of the Race/Competition Director.
8. All CLAIM RULES have the same requirements as Protest procedures. CASH ONLY at time of filing written protest and turned in to the Director of Competition within twenty minutes of race completion.
9. To make an anonymous claim, you may do so at any time prior to the start of the track's pre-race activities. You must have CASH ONLY and desired claim part in writing turned in to the track Administrator ONLY. This information will stay only with the Administrator and Race/Competition Director. The part will be claimed after race, but will not be available for pick up until the following week. You will be notified on Monday morning when pick up is possible.
These rules are subject to change to ensure fairness in competition.
Any car that does not conform to the above rules may be allowed to compete with a weight penalty levied by Newport Speedway Official tech official. this will be done at the discretion of Newport Speedway Official.
